Life is full of big questions. Who are we? Why are we here? What happens when we die? For many, the answers are found in faith.
But what is the true core of that faith? Living Life With Blinders On by Dr. Julius Mosley II points us to the foundation, showing how challenges affect how people connect with faith and each other, and highlighting the importance of reaching people through ministry.
Dr. Mosley shows that understanding god’s righteousness and god’s love is the starting point. This understanding forms the core of faith. Without it, we are building our lives on sand. This article will explore this essential foundation that every believer needs.
Where We Are Lacking and Wanting
…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, – Romans 3:23
The first part of building a strong spiritual foundation is understanding our situation and recognizing the importance of having the right spiritual foundations in our lives. The Bible tells us that God is holy and perfect. We are not. Because of the first man, Adam, we are all born with a curse. This is our sinful nature.

As children of God, we are called to spiritual growth, acknowledging our innocence and dependency on Him. Living Life with Blinders On explains, “God is holy. We are unholy. We have been cursed, and there is no cursed thing going to heaven…only that which is perfect!”
This is a big problem. We cannot fix ourselves. No matter how good we try to be, we fall short. Our best efforts are like offering a dirty glass of water. The water might be clean, but the glass makes it unacceptable. This is why we need help from outside of ourselves. We need a solution from God.
How We Build on This Core of Faith
…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. – Romans 10:9
Knowing about Jesus is not enough. We must personally accept what He did for us. This is what it means to be “born again.” It is a spiritual birth where God makes us new. We move from being in Adam’s cursed family to being in Christ’s redeemed family.
Dr. Mosley highlights a conversation Jesus had: “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
Building on the core of faith is simple, but it requires a decision. It also requires building with care, being intentional and responsible in our spiritual growth so that our foundation endures. It means: admitting that we are sinners and cannot save ourselves; believing that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again; and trusting completely in Him alone for salvation.
As we grow spiritually, we receive instruction from God’s word and from spiritual mentors, which shapes our faith and actions. We are led by God and the Holy Spirit in building on this foundation, using different qualities and resources—like faith, love, and good works—to strengthen our spiritual lives.
Our works and faith will be put to the test, revealing their true quality.
God, as the righteous judge, will evaluate our actions and motives. In this journey, believers use various tools such as prayer, scripture, and fellowship to build faith and serve others.
As Dr. Mosley writes, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God not of works, lest any man should boast.”
This is not about religion; it is about a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Living With the Blinders Off
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. – Psalm 119:105
When we build our lives on the core of faith, everything changes. We are no longer living “with blinders on.” We understand the ultimate reality—that this life is not the end. Physical death is just the beginning of our eternal existence.
With this new understanding, we see the world differently. Our spiritual growth can be compared to a flourishing garden, where God’s love and care nurture us to flourish.
Just as a tree draws nourishment from deep roots, we are sustained by God’s truth, growing strong in faith. We are not here just for a “joy ride.” People have a purpose. We are here to know God and to make Him known.
Our inner conviction is no longer based on our feelings, but on the solid truth of God’s Word. Through revelation, God unveils His truth to believers, guiding us toward deeper understanding.
As persons, we are the recipients of God’s love and truth, called into relationship with Him.

Your Invitation to a Solid Foundation
Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: – Matthew 7:24
A life built on anything other than Jesus Christ is unstable. It is like building a house on sand. When the storms of life come—and they will—and the winds blow against that house, it will fall.
But a life built on the core of faith is a life built on the rock.
It will stand firm no matter what happens.
The most important decision you will ever make is what you do with Jesus Christ. Will you continue to live with blinders on, ignoring the coming judgment? Or will you place your faith in Him today? Those who have rejected the foundation of Christ will find that their lives cannot withstand the trials and ultimate judgment.
Dr. Julius Mosley’s Living Life With Blinders On, goes into much greater detail on this vital topic. With it, we may yet be able to live lives that are truly transformed—reflecting the glory of God and the unshakable foundation that is found in Christ Jesus alone.
