3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
—2 Corinthians 4:3-4
There is a powerful force at work in the world today. Despite all evidence ot the contrary, this force deems himself the god of this world, Satan, who is neither a myth nor a symbol but a genuine entity, a fallen angel who rules over the current systems of this earth and whose main goal is to keep people from seeing the truth about God and about themselves.
He does this by becoming a false god that the world worships without even knowing it.

According to Dr. Julius Mosley II in Living Life With Blinders On, “Satan owns the world and everything that’s in it.” This is a hard truth, but it explains why there is so much confusion, pain, and evil across this world.
This false god wears the face of peace and kindness, promising freedom but, in reality, delivering chains. He offers pleasure that leads only to death and absolute distance from God.
Satan is the power behind the cultural totems we celebrate, the money we chase, and the fame we desire.
Understanding his tricks is the first step to seeing clearly.
A World of Idol Worship
Satan blinds the mind by encouraging idol worship–adoring entities more than we should God. Anything that we look to for safety, happiness, or meaning apart from the Creator is an idol, and, in our modern world, these idols are everywhere.
For many, the symbolic representation of success is a big house, a fancy car, or a high-paying job. While these things are not bad in themselves, they easily become the focus of our lives, becoming traps.
Dr. Mosley explains our fallen nature, saying, “The spirit within us gives us the ability to worship. However, being cursed, we will worship the god of this world, who is Satan.”
This means people will worship anything–some worship celebrities, treating actors and athletes as if they were gods, and others will worship their careers, sacrificing their health and families for a promotion. Still, there are others who worship pleasure.
This worldly obsession with self-gratification keeps the mind so busy that it never stops to think about the Creator. The false god of this world uses these things to distract us from the one true God.
The Deceptive Figure of Self
A powerful trick this false god does is convincing us that we are basically good. We compare ourselves to others, and Satan makes us think we are fine. We might even say, “I’m not a murderer, so I’m a good person.”
But God’s standard is different, for the Bible says, in Romans 3:10, “There is none righteous, no, not one.”
Dr. Mosley writes, “We are sinners, and just as fruit trees produce fruit, sinners produce sin.”
Our problem is not just that we do bad things; it is that we are born with a nature that resists God. This deceptive figure, Satan, tells us we can be our own gods, whispering in our ears that we can decide what is right and wrong for ourselves.
This is the same lie he told Eve in the Garden of Eden.
This pride, this worship of the “self,” is the root of all sin, which makes us think we don’t need a Savior, which is the most dangerous place to be.
Blinded by the World’s System
The “god of this world” has built a system designed to keep us blind, and this vast structure includes the entertainment industry, the education system, and even some forms of religion.
These are not evil in themselves, but Satan uses them to spread his message. Dr. Mosley warns that “news media, social media, schools… all owned by Satan. He uses these tools to damage our thinking and keep us blinded from the truth.”
Think about what is celebrated in movies and music. Often, violence, greed, and sexual sin are presented as normal or even good.
These are the cultural totems of our time.
Society erects statues to fame and fortune while ignoring the living God; people spend hours watching sports but never a moment reading the Bible. They can name all the members of a band but don’t know the names of the books in the Bible. It is this constant drip of worldly values that hardens the heart and dulls the mind and makes people begin to accept wickedness as normal because they are looking at the world through the eyes of a false god.

Seeing the Truth of the World
The only way to have the blinders removed is to look to Jesus Christ and to know that He is the truth that sets people free. Christ is not a false god; He is the living God who came to earth to die for our sins, while Satan, the god of this world, is merely a defeated enemy.
Jesus defeated him on the cross.
Dr. Mosley urges readers to pause and reflect on their existence: “What is beyond the grave?”
The Bible answers that it is not more of the same: it is judgment for those who follow the false god of this world, and eternal life for those who follow Christ.
The choice is clear.
We can keep living with blinders on, serving a world system that is passing away. Or we can turn to Christ and see the light of God’s glory.
The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
—Revelation 20:10
