What are near-death experiences? While Julius Mosley II’s Living Life with Blinders On doesn’t explicitly focus on that, the book is–more or less–a book that is for life now and life after death.

So, it’s a bit prudent to talk about experiences like these.

Although it’s not merely a Christian thing, it is true that we’ve all wondered about what happens after we die. Do our minds just disappear, or do we go somewhere? While no one has all the answers, we can get glimpses from learning about near-death experiences (NDEs).

These are powerful, personal, near-death experiences reported by people who were on the very edge of dying but then came back. What’s truly interesting is how often these stories sound alike, making us all wonder and inspiring us to look closer.

Near-Death Experiences Are More Than Just Dreams

NDEs are what happens when someone is near death, meaning that their heart has either stopped or their breathing has. Often, brain activity might even be flat. Within this in-between state of being alive and being not alive, people have profound experiences.

When they come to, they recall vivid and clear moments. There are stories of ascending to heaven, and there are some that speak of descending down to hell. These aren’t dreams or wild imaginings. They are glimpses into something beyond human knowledge.

The fact that these reports are so similar, no matter where people are from or how old they are, makes them hard to simply brush off as just what happens when your body shuts down. These stories from the edge of life and death offer a unique window.

The Brief Journey towards the Light Beyond

The one thing that grounds near-death experiences in a spiritual foundation is how there are common things that pop up in most recollections. Out-of-body experiences are a common thing, where people–upon “death”–leave their physical bodies, floating above them, sometimes with a view of the people who are trying to save them.

It’s like being a spectator to their own emergency. After this, many talk about moving through a tunnel or a dark space, often feeling they move fast towards a bright, beautiful light. These near-death visions share a remarkable consistency.

This light is probably the most talked-about and powerful part of NDEs. It isn’t just bright. It’s often described as a source of immense love, perfect peace, and complete understanding. People often feel a huge sense of warmth and complete acceptance when they are near it. Some see this light as a divine being, God, or some kind of universal energy, and it makes them feel a deep spiritual connection.

This points to something divine that is potentially present in each soul. If there was no such thing as a higher power, why do many NDEs portray the same scenes?

Living a Life that is Forever Changed

NDEs have a consistently profound emotional impact. The fear of death often vanishes, replaced by a deep peace and a confident belief in the continuation of the soul. Many who experience NDEs report big shifts in what they value. They start to cherish love, compassion, and helping others more, finding worldly possessions or ambitions pale in comparison. Their lives often transform in dramatic ways, with many changing careers, doing more charity work, or becoming more spiritual.

For a lot of people, NDEs serve as God’s reminder of how to live a proper life and how life is too precious to take haphazardly.

For many, NDEs offer strong support for the idea of an afterlife. These personal accounts connect deeply with one’s faith. Whatever you may think of them, NDEs definitely make us think big about what our minds are capable of and where our existence might go. They make us wonder if our journey doesn’t just end when we take our last breath but instead shifts into a different, perhaps even grander, way of being.
